A Year to Honor Our PriestsSince 1996, the Saint John Paul II Award has honored Catholics whose service and generosity leave a lasting mark on the ministries of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In most years, the honor goes to a layperson, a married couple, or a permanent deacon. This year is different.
As the Catholic Community Foundation marks its 50th anniversary, it is the right moment to recognize the men who devote their lives to our spiritual care.
Their sacrifice is easy to overlook because it is so constant. They celebrate Mass and hear confessions. They baptize the young, witness the vows of the newly married, anoint the sick, and commend the dying to God. They bring Communion to the homebound, guide the children of their parish schools, and sit with anyone who comes to them carrying a heavy heart. They have led parishes through hurricanes, floods, and a pandemic, and they answer the call at every hour.
This Award is the Foundation’s way of saying what so many of us feel but rarely say aloud: thank you. To every priest who has poured himself out for this local Church, we are grateful beyond words.
The priests of the Archdiocese will be honored at the Foundation's Annual Dinner on October 1, 2026. Registration is open.
